Last Thursday Diane Linthicum gave us a challenge to give public comment in regards to the Wells/ water policy in Oregon...
the ground water and well-drilling rules summary is below... see attached for talking points
New Rules from the Groundwater Allocation Rules Advisory Committee (RAC) would essentially end any new Water Right permits for agriculture or commercial use. This would crush our economic potential in the future. We really need your help - We now have support from many of our local Republican legislators and Commissioners.
We have taken the position that the Oregon Water Resources Department (OWRD) needs to pause the rulemaking process and get a more comprehensive plan for water policy in Oregon. This did not go to the legislators. It has been pushed through the RAC with a committee makeup (Chosen by OWRD) that heavily favors a predetermined outcome. This one size fits everyone in Oregon water policy is not the best approach to their stated purpose of managing water for beneficial use without waste.
